The cost lever here is the open weights, not the API price. And a 2.8T MoE is not cheap to self-host: the weights are free, the GPUs to serve them are not. So the "cheap frontier for cost-sensitive builders" framing that fit DeepSeek fits K3 only loosely.
India angle. For most Indian builders the practical content is narrower than the parameter count suggests. The hosted API at $3/$15 is a capability option at frontier-mid pricing, not a discount to route Indic consumer workloads against — Luna at $1/$6 and the Chinese sub-$1 open-weight APIs remain the volume tiers. Self-hosting a 2.8T model is out of reach for all but the best-resourced Indian infra, so the open-weights advantage accrues to hyperscalers and sovereign-stack efforts, not to a five-person startup. Where K3 matters for India is procurement optics: another Chinese-origin open model at claimed frontier capability sharpens the same question the enterprise-token data already posed — whether Indian buyers should pay the US-flagship premium when the Chinese open-weight ceiling keeps rising.
